kenny martin
Kenny Martin began studying cello at the age of nine, and graduated from the Suzuki Method in the studio of Tracy Sands of Lincoln, NE. In addition to maintaining a private cello studio at home, he also teaches cello and piano at Neighborhood Music Stapleton at Stanley Marketplace. He currently also serves as Music Director and Conductor of the Civic Youth/Aurora Youth Orchestra guiding many young string players through their first Orchestral Experience. Kenny also teaches strings, general music and consults at many Elementary and High Schools in Denver and Aurora Public Schools.
He has studied cello with Tracy Sands, Gegory Clinton, Barbara Thiem, Katharine Knight, Richard Slavich, and Jurgen de Lemos. Kenny holds a Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance from Colorado State University where he also completed the intensive Cello Pedagogy Certificate. He then studied Suzuki Pedagogy at the University of Denver with Carol Tarr and served as Graduate Teaching Assistant to Jjurgen de Lemos.
He has played in many Master Classes for cellists including Dennis Parker, Joan Jeanrenaud of the Kronos Quartet, John and Sara Sant'Ambrogio, Julie Ambers, Benjamin Zander, and Zuill Bailey. He has served as Principal Cellist with the CSU Symphony, the Lamont Symphony, the Denver Philharmonic and currently is Principal of the Aurora Symphony Orchestra.
In addition to teaching and performing, Kenny has over two decades of experience as a Floral Designer in the Lincoln and Denver areas. A former professor told him, "Kenny, you seem to want to make the world a beautiful place."
